Bitsika combines social and fintech features into one big super app.

its been a while since we spoke and I have a small update for you. Bitsika is now a social app (in addition to our old fintech features, that is). Consumer social is eating the world and we’ve taken a seat at the dinner table. Update your app in the stores to see now. Video demo.

There’s always been friction between social media and fintech; with each party struggling to create more utility for itself by forcing a connection with the other. It’s never been enough to just create a go-fund-me link. You always had to also paste the link on Twitter or Facebook to get any traction at all. Same way you can’t natively do a cash giveaway within any of our major social media apps. The recipients have to use a separate payments app to receive the giveaway reward. We thought: what if the utilities of fintech and social media were combined in one app to remove this friction? We went out to build just that.

The new Bitsika will allow users to perform their usual transactions (sending money, intra-African remittances, crypto, virtual cards, bills, etc), with the added ability to optionally share these transactions with their friends and followers in exciting ways. It’s totally possible for users to use Bitsika for its fintech features only, without ever touching a social feature. Some users may also rather use Bitsika to follow and read friends’ posts without ever having to make a transaction. Hopefully, most users will prefer a bit of both; though all three types of users are appreciated and welcomed.

Things you can do on Bitsika Social…

Profiles: create social profiles that show your personality. When a Bitsika user follows you, they see all your posts on their timeline. Users can also directly send money to you via your profile without asking you first or needing any details from you.

Posts and comments: optionally share your transactions on the Bitsika app timeline for all your friends to see. You can also make general posts and comments that are not connected to transactions. Posts from the people you follow will appear in a social feed timeline.

Fundraising and crowdfunding: create fundraising campaigns for the weekend pizza party or to help pay for a friend’s hospital bills. Bitsika users can donate to you in any currency. Best part is that you can withdraw the funds as they come in parts. No need to wait for the whole amount to be donated.
